She asked “Well what do you fancy doing?”, I said “I wouldn’t mind being barista trained?”. She then told me about Springboard, who were running a hospitality course, “would you be interested?”, I said “Yeah, let’s give it a go!”
Fast forward a week later, I’m on a three-week hospitality course covering cocktail making, sampling different spirits, visiting hotels and restaurants and coffee shops, being taught how to carry trays taking orders for food, even a day’s barista training.
I found it very informative, interesting, engaging, fun and the opportunity to meet new and existing people and work as a team to help each other.
I would recommend anyone going into the hospitality sector to give this course ago. At the end of the course, we got put into work placements for a week, I got put into a coffee shop called 200 degrees coffee in Manchester City Centre, where I got offered a full time job because I expressed to the staff and the managers from head office, that I’m the sort of person that just gets on with it and goes for it. I know I’m on my way to being a head barista and maybe in the future open my own record shop with a coffee shop inside. So, as I said before I would recommend anyone wanting to get into hospitality to do this course with Springboard, you will learn a lot as I did.”

The course involved tours of a hotel and a great cocktail making session to know all the ins and outs of making cocktails and how to be a good bartender. Also, there was a good session on how to be a waiter and how to make peoples food and drinks order. There were also a few sessions online about how to present your CV and how to make it look good for an employer.
There was a whole morning dedicated to your interview skills and a mock interview to see what needs improving in regard to your interview skills. When the course ended everyone got a placement week in a company in which they are most interested in. I wanted something to do with bartending and Springboard got me a placement week in The Ivy Collection. Towards the end of my third day the head bar manager pulled me to the side and offered me a job their full time because of my attitude to the staff and the customers.
Overall I would highly recommend this course to anyone who with any interest in hospitality as it covers all the bases in the field.”

I am very proud that I have completed the programme. It has given me the confidence to apply for a number of front of house and food & beverage roles.”

After a period of illness and being out of work really knocked my confidence and I feel now that I am in a much better position to apply for jobs and present myself with my updated CV. This programme gave me structure to each day and any reservations I had about joining were diminished on day one. I now realise I have many transferrable skills, I’m so glad I saw the Springboard Ad.
The 3 weeks we all had were fabulous and gave me the confidence to apply for jobs and present my CV in person to employers. I would not have reached this stage without Springboard. I have started my role as Receptionist at The Premier Inn. This is a huge personal achievement after a rough couple of years so thank you!”
