Before joining the Skill Up Step Up course, I was in the beauty industry and then went into retail, as a result of the pandemic. The pandemic made me rethink about my career and I decided to join the Skill Up Step Up course to help expand my current skills, as well as learn new ones.
I took part in the course in May, after finding out about it online. My favourite thing from the course was definitely the industry visits, we were lucky enough to visit Brasserie Zédel, South Place Hotel and SMART Group’s venue ‘EVOLUTION’. It was really beneficial for me to visit the hospitality venues and see the behind the scenes for how a business in the industry operates.
Before I took part in the course, I really struggled with my confidence. However, after taking part in the course I have noticed that my confidence has improved a lot. Something that I found really important throughout the course, was having a supportive trainer.
I would definitely recommend this programme to someone looking to join the hospitality industry because it’s a great way to enhance your skills, meet new people and prepare yourself to get into a career you really love.
Since finishing the course, I have secured a role in Hilton Hotel, where I currently still work. I started four months ago as a Conferencing and Banqueting Waiter and was recently promoted to a Conferencing and Banqueting Team Leader. I am really enjoying my new role. It still feels like a dream but I’m excited to see where this dream takes me.
I have now become a Springboard Ambassador to help inspire the future of hospitality. As an Ambassador, I would love to continue to share my story and support other young trainees, like myself, into the industry.
