Springboard Programme: Diageo Learning for Life

Three years ago I was homeless and found it impossible to secure employment. In September of 2019 I was lucky enough to be selected for the Springboard and Diageo Learning for Life employability programme. Those few weeks were some of the best times. The world host and cocktail training in particular were fun and very helpful.

I got a bar job at Drimsynie Estate, which I started the day after the Diageo Learning for Life graduation, thanks to one of the tutors from Springboard. I spent two adventure filled years in Highlands doing a job that I love.

Now I work in a cocktail bar in Greenock called Eighteen08, a few months ago I was working in a busy city centre restaurant where I was responsible for answering all questions about cocktails, using the knowledge I had gained from the Diageo Learning for Life employability programme.

I went from knowing nothing about the hospitality industry to being an experienced bartender that has the luxury of choosing where he works.
