Spoke-tacular Cyclists Invited to 2017 Team Velo Challenge

on .

The Springboard Charity’s Team Velo Challenge will see cyclists pedalling from London to Paris over three days this September and Springboard is inviting participants of all abilities to take on the three day team challenge.

The 2017 cycling challenge will take place 21st – 23rd September 2017 as participants pedal their way between two of the most iconic cities in the world: London and Paris. It’s a challenge in every sense of the word and team work is essential.

Launched by Genuine Dining with the support of Pullman Hotels, and now in partnership with Sky, Team Velo Challenge aims to raise funds for The Springboard Charity. Springboard and Sky will be with the cyclists all the way, as they navigate to the Eiffel Tower finish line.

Sky have a wealth of experience working on sports events, namely the Tour de France. By supporting Springboard’s Team Velo Challenge they will be a natural support for the race, which is fast becoming the hospitality industry’s leading race.

Chris Mitchell, Managing Director, The Genuine Dining Company (GDC) commented: ‘‘I can’t believe this is Team Velo’s 6th year. It started with a team of 6 of us and every year it’s grown so we must be doing something right. I’m really proud that GDC are responsible for starting such an exciting event that enables Springboard to continue their important fundraising work.’’

Damian Saunders, Strategy & Commercial Director for Sky Business said: “We’re thrilled to be supporting this fantastic challenge once again. The enthusiasm and camaraderie last year was brilliant and we’re looking forward to supporting another successful event to raise even more funds for this very important cause.”

Participants will be raising funds to develop and support Springboard’s youth programmes and even more people into wonderful careers in hospitality, leisure and tourism. By registering a team, each cyclist commits to raising a minimum of £500. Participants will be joining an enriching event that finishes in the French capital with a Champagne reception.

Anne Pierce, Springboard’s CEO said: “I am punishing myself yet again by doing Team Velo… and in my saner moments I ask myself why? Each time the reasons for doing it drown out the protestations of my ageing body - it’s great fun, it’s an awesome sense of achievement and it’s competitive, in a kind of light-hearted but deadly serious kind of way! You meet some great people, you see some great sights, but most of all it’s a way of raising funds to make a difference to people’s lives – and that’s always worth the effort!”

The route:

  • Day 1: London – Portsmouth. Distance: 84.5 miles
  • Day 2: Caen – Le Neubourg. Distance: 68 miles.
  • Day 3: Le Neubourg – Paris. Distance: 76 miles.
