Trip overview:

On 21st March, you’ll fly from London Heathrow Airport to Managua, where you’ll take a short transfer to your hotel in Leon for your first night in Nicaragua. The next morning, you’ll begin your adventure with a drive to the small community of Rota for an orientation of the project activities and to meet with key community members before beginning your first trek of the trip. Experience your first taste of rural life when you camp in the small village of Cristo Rey.

The next day, you’ll set off early to begin the hike up one of Nicaragua’s most active volcanoes - Telica Volcano. Enjoy the breathtakingly spectacular views from the top of the summit as you peek into the crater to see the bubbling lava. Arrive at the comunity of San Jacinto, your home for the night. The following morning, you’ll begin your 14km trek through the typical Nicaraguan farmland and have the chance to witness authentic local life before beginning work on your community project at the school. You’ll be spending the next three days working hard to build an outdoor shelter area to be used at lunchtime, and as an emergency shelter, as well as completing any additional repairs around the school.

After completing the project, you’ll say your goodbyes to your new friends and continue trekking to the nearby Cerro Negro Volcano; one of the highlights of the trip. The Cerro Negro is one of the youngest and most active volcanoes on Earth, with no trees or plants obscuring the astonishing views of the surrounding volcanoes as well as the Pacific Ocean. Choose between walking down the quick descent, or slide down on a rented board if you’re feeling brave!

The final trek of the trip will be the most challenging, up the 1088m-high El Hoyo Volcano. Reward yourselves for all of your hard work on the way back down with a relaxing dip in the crystalline waters of the Asososca Lagoon before taking a bus transfer to Granada, your final destination, where you’ll have a couple of days of free time to spend exploring the churches, museums and plazas or alternatively, enjoy a horse-drawn ride around the streets before relaxing by the pool with a drink. In the evening, the group will come together to enjoy a celebratory meal to mark the end of the TREK before flying back to London.
