FutureChef Teacher’s Twilight Event: Hotel Football, Old Trafford

on .

On Wednesday 8th July Hotel Football opened it’s doors to 20 Food Teachers and hosted the first FutureChef Twilight Session of FutureChef 2016!

Twilight sessions have been designed to provide Food Teachers with valuable information, resources, demonstrations and local industry contacts to enhance the delivery of their food curriculum.

Across the North West of England Springboard’s FutureChef works in partnership with the Food Teachers Centre and The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts to meet these objectives.

Hosted by Springboard Ambassadors Jack Appleton and Dave Lythall, Sales Manager and Head Chef at Hotel Football, teachers were welcomed and treated to a tour of the hotel’s hospitality spaces and kitchens.

Jack talked about the commercial aspect of opening up a new hotel, recruiting for staff and demonstrated how the event spaces in the hotel were used to attract and host customers. All attendees were then taken on a tour of the hotel’s function spaces including the aptly named ‘Heaven’; a unique top floor space complete with a football pitch, retractable roof and spectacular views of Old Trafford and Greater Manchester.

The hotel tour ended up at Head Chef Dave Lythall’s kitchen where he was waiting to demonstrate the practical knife skills of deboning a chicken and portioning and the preparation of a hotel favourite, ‘Decontructed Chicken Pot Pie’ followed by Hotel Football’s take on Manchester Tart. Throughout the demonstration Dave answered teachers’ questions on food preparation and knife skills, presentation techniques, work experience, recruitment, food sourcing, menu planning and costing.

Once the demo was over our delegates were invited to sit down for a two course dinner of Decontructed Chicken Pot Pie followed by Manchester Tart. Both dishes were chosen by Head Chef Dave to fit within the FutureChef Competition criteria for Stage 2, The Local Final.
And finally, after two delicious courses, Dave came out of the kitchen for a final question and answer session.

It really was a great event and our thanks go to Hotel Football, in particular our star Ambassadors Dave and Jack.

“Thank you for a superb afternoon event. The venue, food and information presented were all outstanding. It was a pleasure to be part of it.”
